Ice Hockey (outdoor)

We are looking forward to having another successful season with the kids at the Outdoor rink in Carp

  • Our program is co-ed, recreational, non contact and non competitive.
  • Fees are much less than organized, indoor hockey.
  • Our season depends totally on Mother Nature. For this season we expect to begin around January 6 2024, continuing through late February-early March.
  • For all skill levels, including beginners to skating and hockey.

Carp teams participate in the West Carleton Outdoor Hockey League.  Home games are played in Carp, while away games rotate among the neighbouring communities that register teams such as Fitzroy Harbour and Constance Bay.

Games are typically played Saturday mornings, while practices take place once weekly, during the evenings, based on coaches preferred evenings (hint hint: if you offer to coach your child you may be able to choose the practice night).

Note: A parent or suitable guardian is required to stay at the rink during practices and games unless arrangements have been made with the respective coach.

Teams are comprised of co-ed age groupings and will depend on registrations received.  Usually the groupings are 5-7 yrs, 8-9 yrs, 10-12 yrs, and 13-15 yrs.  Age is determined by birth year.

  • Full equipment is required:
(helmet and cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, “jock or jill” strap, neck guards, knee pads, hockey pants)
  • Mouth guards are optional.
  • Carp hockey jerseys and socks will be issued for use during the season.

2024 Outdoor Hockey Fees

  • Hockey Fees: $70 per player
  • A $50 deposit cheque per player, to hand to coach at the first practice, in exchange for a hockey jersey and socks.  This will be returned at the end of the season in exchange for your CLEAN jersey and socks.

The Huntley Community Association membership $35 annual fee per family is waived for this activity this year.

If you have a child who is interested in fulfilling their volunteering hours and would be interested in refereeing, please reach out to the convenor (outdoorhockey.hca@gmail.com).

Our program is run by volunteers and we welcome moms or dads, aunts, uncles, siblings and grandparents who want to assist with coaching/managing their child’s team.

Free Hockey Equipment Opportunity

We have a supply of gently used hockey equipment that is available at no cost to families of registered players this year. Items will available for viewing and pick-up or exchange at the HCA Outdoor Rink Community Centre, 108 Juanita Drive, on Saturday December 16 from 10:00am until 12:00pm.

Rowan’s Law

A new Ontario law called Rowan’s Law has come into effect for sports organizations. This law outlines certain requirements of the organizers, participants, and parents of participants regarding the awareness of concussions, procedures to be taken if a concussion is suspected, and how to return a player to a sport following a suspected concussion. In the following registration process, you will be asked to confirm you have read our policy statement, and that you have reviewed at least one of the resources offered by the Province of Ontario regarding concussions. The resources are offered in the form of booklets, videos, and an interactive learning guide. The booklets and videos are tailored to certain age groups. Concussions are serious brain injuries, so we ask all participants and parents to review the documents presented with care.

Coaches and Team Trainers

Coaches and Team trainers do not “register” like a participant does, however they do have to certify that they have reviewed and agree with the requirements to comply with Rowan’s Law. If you are a coach or team trainer, please click on the link below.

Player Registration

Player registration is a three-step process this year.

  • First, players and parents must complete the requirements to comply with the new Rowan’s Law.
  • Registration starts with the calculation of the total fee for all players that you will register.
  • Finally, player registration is entered for each player individually.

The fee calculation is a separate single step so a parent registering more than one player does not have to go through a payment process more than once.

Although all three steps must be completed before a player can be permitted to participate, you may be interrupted before competing all three. In this case, you can resume the process by going directly to any portion of the registration process at a later time, as follows:

Note:  The deadline for registering for the 2024 season has been extended until January 5 2024. This is to allow time for the convenors to form the teams. If you have questions please contact the Outdoor Hockey convenor at outdoorhockey.hca@gmail.com.
