New this year – Scrap wood collection
Location: Parking lot near the HCA Outdoor Rink and the W. Erskine Johnston Arena, Carp Fairgrounds. Volunteers are available to assist – see volunteer shift schedule below for times.
We are adding something new to our semi-annual metal and e-waste collection weekend. As an experiment, scrap wood that may be hanging around your garage or basement can be brought to our collection site.
But there’s a catch! We can only accept untreated and unpainted lumber or wood scraps. Since we receive no return for wood that we collect, we’d appreciate a small donation for this service. Much less than what it would cost you to take small quantities of waste wood to a dump on your own!
Help make our next recycling weekend successful!
We know Carp loves recycling weekends. But we need more help to make sure the weekend runs as planned. We need both adult and youth community volunteers to support the event.
What you need to know
- Each shift is two hours only.
- Gloves and metal cutters are provided.
- Work wear recommended
- Volunteers help move materials from vehicles into one of two appropriate onsite bins at the collection point.
- The collection point is in the parking lot of the WEJ Arena on Juanita Drive in Carp.
- Each shift should have one adult volunteer and two student volunteers (counts towards high school volunteer hours).
- Younger volunteers must have parental supervision onsite.

Shifts:
- Friday, October 16: 1-3pm and 3-5pm
- Saturday, October 17: 9-11am, 11-1pm, 1-3pm and 3-5pm
- Sunday, October 18: 9-11am, 11-1pm,1-3pm.
