Each year the Huntley Community Association strives to provide access to the Huntley Community Centre (Carp outdoor rink building) for skaters to put on skates and warm up. We have run successful schedules for students to volunteer for shifts that run for 3 hours Monday to Friday and two shifts on Saturday and Sunday. Students would have the responsibility to open the ODR building, stay on site for 3 hours, and then close the building.
The Community Centre offers an office and Wifi so students would be able to do homework or use social media, and the option to skate and “take shots” is also encouraged. Two students would be able to work each shift, so friends can work together.
The schedule would begin January 5th 2026, and would run (subject to weather) until the end of February. Should Mother Nature co-operate, March could be available until March Break as well.
Shifts offered are as follows:
- Monday to Friday, 6pm to 9pm. Close at 9pm.
- Saturday and Sunday 10am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm.
Students who are interested can contact [email protected]
Students volunteering for multiple weeks/shifts are encouraged. Students can collect as many hours as they want.
Students will only be responsible for opening and closing the building and being onsite for the entire 3 hour shift, there will be no supervisory requirements. The earlier students list their availability, the more likely they will get the time slots they prefer!
