Outdoor Hockey

Ice Hockey (outdoor)

Please Note:

As of March 16 2020, all of our programs and facilities have been closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as directed by the City of Ottawa. We will attempt to reopen our venues and restart our programs and activities as conditions permit.

We are looking forward to having another successful season with the kids at the Outdoor rink in Carp

  • Our program is co-ed, recreational, non contact and non competitive.
  • Fees are much less than organized, indoor hockey.
  • Our season depends totally on Mother Nature, typically running from late December-early January until late February-early March.
  • For all skill levels, including beginners to skating and hockey.

Carp teams participate in the West Carleton Outdoor Hockey League.  Home games are played in Carp, while away games rotate among the neighbouring communities that register teams such as Kinburn, Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay, Dunrobin or Corkery.

Games are typically played Saturday mornings, while practices take place once weekly, during the evenings, based on coaches preferred evenings (hint hint: if you offer to coach your child you may be able to choose the practice night).

Note: A parent or suitable guardian is required to stay at the rink during practices and games unless arrangements have been made with the respective coach.

There will be a year-end event to celebrate the season on the indoor ice at the W. Erskine Johnston Arena.  More details to come.

Teams are comprised of co-ed age groupings and will depend on registrations received.  Usually the groupings are 5-7 yrs, 8-9 yrs, 10-12 yrs, and 13-15 yrs.  Age is determined by birth year.

  • Full equipment is required:
(helmet and cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, “jock or jill” strap, neck guards, knee pads, hockey pants)
  • Mouth guards are optional.
  • Carp hockey jerseys and socks will be issued for use during the season.

2019-2020 Outdoor Hockey Fees

  • Huntley Community Association membership $35 annual fee per family (Hockey is the first event for 2020 and will need to be paid by each family), and:
  • Hockey Fees: $70 per player
  • A $50 deposit cheque per player, to hand to coach at the first practice, in exchange for a hockey jersey and socks.  This will be returned at the end of the season in exchange for your CLEAN jersey and socks.

If you have a child who is interested in fulfilling their volunteering hours and would be interested in refereeing, please reach out to the convenor (

Our program is run by volunteers and we welcome moms or dads, aunts, uncles, siblings and grandparents who want to assist with coaching/managing their child’s team.

Last year we had an equipment exchange that was very successful and we would like to continue this again for this season – it will be held on December 7th from 9:00am until 1:00pm at the Carp Outdoor Rink (More details to follow).  Donations of gently-used hockey gear are always welcome. You can contact the convenor below if you have anything to donate.

For any additional inquiries, please email our Hockey Convenor:
